Which item types can be imported?
Multiple choice and essay questions can be imported.
How many items can I import at once?
There is no limit to the number of items that can be imported at a given time.
What columns are required?
For brand new question imports, you must import at minimum the stem, all distractors in order, and the answer key (letter).
For updates to existing questions via import, the only columns that are required are the canonical ID and a version number.
Can my import file contain items from more than one item bank?
No. You must import items from each item bank separately. A common reason to use different item banks rather than different folders is to restrict permissions and access.
Can I import an item in multiple languages?
Yes. If your questions are available in more than one language, you can import the translations at the same time by using the Language drop down menu. On your import file, the translations should all be on the same row; they will all share a Canonical ID. However, every question needs to exist in English.
Can I import items with images?
If it is a new item, the image needs to be assigned manually.
If it is an existing item that is being updated, the image path can be kept in the content.
Why didn’t my workflow state import?
When an item is created, either via import or in the editor, it will always have the default (first) workflow state. To update the workflow state, run a second import. Luckily, the second import only needs to contain the Canonical ID, Version No, and the Workflow State to update the item status.
