A passage is exam content that can be associated with multiple questions. Typically it provides additional context to – and relates – a series of items. Measure uses the terms “Passage” and “Case Study” for the same feature.
A passage has a name and body (text) - it does not contain any questions (ie: questions are created separately). The passage editor accepts text, images, graphs, and tables.
Passages are organized separate from questions, beneath the item bank folder tree, and are designated by a paperclip icon. You can view/edit all questions currently linked to the passage as well as the passage itself by clicking into the passage name.
Adding a Passage/Case study
- Navigate to the Questions & Exams tab>Questions, then select the item bank that the passage will be added to.
- Click on Add a [case study/passage].
- Add a name and text for the passage. Use the Name field to give a label to your passage/case study (note that this will not be visible on exams). Add the passage/case study's text to the text box.
- If applicable, add multiple languages by clicking on the language drop-down menu. Content in English is required by default.
- Once complete, click Save passage.
Link a Passage/Case study to questions
Once you have created a passage/case study, you can link it to a question.
- Navigate to the Questions & Exams tab>Questions, then select the item bank in which the passage/case study has been added
- Select an item and then click on the “Edit Question” button in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen to open the item editor. Click on the Notepad (“Show Passage”) button in the bottom toolbar.
- Select the case study related to the item.
- Click Save changes.
Can I attach a passage to an item via import?
Yes! If you have the passage ID, passages and items can be linked in bulk.
